We were honored to be part of the first health festival in El Salvador, where different institutions came together to educate the general population and promote the prevention of different types of cancer. With the support of MD Anderson’s I.T, Joseph Thomas and BHI’s I.T, Rene Novoa; we offered a REDCap software (Research Electronic Data Capture) training session for the staff of Dirección Nacional de Medicamentos (DNM), Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS) and Dirección de Tecnología Sanitarias y de Calidad (MINSAL) staff.

Our president and founder, Miriam Cremer, was the expert committee chair at the WHO Cervical Cancer Guideline Development meeting. This meeting was focused on updating WHO on screening and treatment recommendations to prevent cervical cancer worldwide.
PATH conference in Guatemala
Part of the BHI team was invited by PATH to go to a conference in Antigua Guatemala. At this meeting, discussions were held about the challenges and accomplishments of cervical cancer prevention in the Central American region. Strategies were developed as well, to help eradicate this disease.

Spreading Cervical Cancer Awareness
It’s important for us to spread awareness about cervical cancer and the ways to prevent it. Dr. Méndez and Dr. Pérez were invited to a radio show where they shared their knowledge about cervical cancer; and to speak about what we do at BHI.
Mobile ODT follow-up training
A meeting was held to evaluate the six months of work in the triage centers at the Eastern region of El Salvador; using Mobile ODT in patients with HPV positive results.

Also, Dr. Mauricio Maza was invited to give a presentation to medical students on "Artificial Intelligence for Cervical Cancer Prevention".

BHI was honored to have been featured in an article by FIGO. The study addressed in the article reflects the impact of the cervical cancer screening program in El Salvador. This makes us proud because our collaboration with the Ministry of Health of El Salvador has been recognized around the world. We are committed to support the World Health Organization's call for action to eliminate cervical cancer.

Dr. Rachel Masch was awarded a Celgene Cancer Care Links grant for a project
Dr. Rachel Masch, the Chief Medical Officer of BHI, was awarded a Celgene Cancer Care Links grant for a project that was launched this week in Haiti. The study involves having 3,000 women perform HPV self-collection. The women's who are HPV-positive will then be treated with thermoablation, which uses heat to treat cervical pre-cancer. The Celgene research project examines the feasibility and acceptability of HPV self-collection and thermoablation in both a rural and urban setting and will take place at two sites: the Family Health Ministries (FHM) clinic in the mountains of Tom Gato, and the St. Luke's/BHI clinic in Port-au-Prince. Also, Rene Novoa, BHI's IT expert, trained 2 people on how to use RedCAP, the cloud-based data collection, and analysis tool that will be used in this study

Dr. Cremer attended a World Health Organization (WHO) meeting for defining research questions that will be important to meet the 2030 goal for elimination of cervical cancer. 2030 goal: A world where no women dies from cervical cancer. Vaccinating women against HPV.
Drs. Cremer and Masch and Catherine Platt flew to China to see the 3 new hospitals in Xinxiang Province
Drs. Cremer and Masch and Catherine Platt flew to China to see the 3 new hospitals in Xinxiang Province that will participate in the UH3. Drs. Cremer and Masch, along with the physicians from SDH, trained doctors from Weihui, Fengqiu and Yanjin hospitals in CO2 cryotherapy, CryoPen and thermoablation.
