Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a necessary part of Basic Health International’s (BHI) work to eradicate cervical cancer and save the lives of women around the world. There are several ways you can volunteer with BHI depending on your interest and experience. These volunteer opportunities include: PR/Communications, Fundraising, and Educational Outreach.

Requirements for all positions:

  • 1-2 half days/week – flexible schedule
  • Minimum 3 month commitment
  • Experience or interest in nonprofits, women’s health, global health, medicine, cancer, public health
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Minimum education requirement – sophomore in college
  • Willing to do a variety of projects as the needs of the organization change

1. Fundraising Volunteer

Duties & Responsibilities:

BHI needs funds to expand and execute programs in the states and abroad. Help raise vital funds for Basic Health! There are many creative ways to raise money and awareness and we encourage you to help brainstorm fundraising ideas and/or execute different fundraisers such as auctions, races, cocktail parties, and non-profit fundraising days with restaurants/bakeries/etc. Tap into school, social, and work networks and expand your fundraising and awareness-building capacity.

Qualifications:

  • Constant contact experience a plus
  • Previous nonprofit and/or fundraising experience
  • Spanish-speaking skills a plus, but not required
  • Volunteers must: be at least a junior in college, professional, possess excellent communication skills, be willing to do a variety of projects as the needs of the organization changes, display creativity, and work well individually and with a team.

2. Educational Outreach Volunteer

Duties & Responsibilities:

BHI needs help spreading awareness and information about cervical cancer and HPV. An educational outreach volunteer may create educational tools that can be used in various settings to raise awareness about cervical cancer, screening, and the work that Basic Health does to eradicate cervical cancer and save women’s lives. Examples of duties include setting up speakers and/or conferences to educate new audiences and connecting experts throughout the world who are working toward the common goal of eradicating cervical cancer.

Qualifications:

  • Public health, international studies, global affairs, pre-med, educational studies, and teaching majors preferred
  • Some teaching experience, health education background preferred
  • Spanish-speaking skills a plus, but not required
  • Volunteers must be professional, possess excellent communication skills, flexible, display creativity, and work well individually and with a team.
